Going to debut on Indian shores with the Ford EcoSport, “1.0L EcoBoost” had won title of 2013 International Engine of the Year for second time in a row. Blissfully, the 1.0L mill of Ford managed to grab the highest score in 15 years history of prestigious award.
Made available in the European and Asian countries, it is grabbing eyeballs from other parts of the world too.
Probably embedded in most of the models of Blue Oval, the 1.0L mill is turbocharged and it use direct injection in the plethora of three cylinder. “You have to drive it to believe a small three-cylinder engine can deliver such performance and fuel economy,” says Joe Bakaj, Ford Vice President, Global Powertrain.
Adding more markets to list of smallest EcoBoost, Ford is said to increase its production capacity in the Cologne plant of Germany by an additional 1,000 units per day from mid of August.
“With a technology as mature as the internal combustion engine, it’s very rare to achieve a true breakthrough, but that is exactly what the team accomplished with this engine,” concluded Mr. Bakaj.
