Before the launch of the BMW 6 series convertible in India, Audi India have launched their Audi R8 Spyder, the open top version of their R8 supercar. This was just a day before the 6 series convertible was launched in India. Its hard top variant is already available in India and its sales have far exceeded what the company may have thought of. Audi India’s head, Michael Perschke at the time of the launch said that like its international lineup, the Audi R8 in India now gets all the variants available under the R8 moniker. The Audi R8 Spyder variant looks exactly the same as its hard top version and features a soft top roof which weighs only 30 kgs.
The engine that would be powering the R8 Spyder is the 5.2 liter V10 petrol which will produce 525 Hp of peak power. It is mated to a 6 speed sequential transmission. The unique quality of this transmission is that it can be used both in automatic as also manual mode. This car will come with all LED head lights, Audi’s space frame technology and Quattro drive. Top speed is an estimated 314 kmph whereas the 0-100 run will take only 4.1 seconds. This 0-100 kmph figure is achieved via the launch control system whereas the interiors would boast of a premium music system via Bang & Olufsen, cooled front seats and leather seat covers which have a certain pigment which will protect the seats from heating. The 2011 Audi R8 Spyder’s price in India is Rs 1.47 crores. This is ex-show room, Mumbai. Bookings for the R8 Spyder have already begun.
