The 2014 Range Rover Sport will be on sale in the Indian market, most likely, in the festive season. The company had been previewing this car through various teasers and spy shots recently. This 2014 Range Rover Sport, as the name suggests, offers a sportier version of the 2014 model of Range Rover.
Range Rover is a car manufactured by Land Rover. This is a British manufacturing firm that specializes in designing 4 wheel drive cars. It came into existence in the year 1978. It falls under Jaguar Land Rover which is owned by Indian automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors. Land Rover has been regularly sold and bought with a history 7 owners till 2008. Presently it is owned by Tata Motors.
The first ever pictures of Land Rover’s Range Rover Sport were revealed in the year 2004. This SUV made its debut as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show in the year 2004. Although the name gives the perception that it is a sport version of Range Rover, in reality it is a completely new car making the use of an LR3 chassis. The car entered the markets in the end of 2005. This 2006 model has stayed in the market since then. The 2014 Range Rover is the second generation Range Rover Sport which made its debut at the New York auto Show in March 2013. The chief guest at the launch party of this car was the man with the James Bond fame, Daniel Craig.
Talking about the look of this 2014 model, it looks like an intermediate between the 1st gen Ranger Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. The car has a floating roof and has extended head lights. This new gen model weighs a total of 460 kg lesser than the previous model. It is also significantly faster than the previous model. The most appreciable addition made to this new model of Range Rover Sport is the optional 3rd row seat. This seat remains under the boot floor until needed and can provide space for 2 children.
In India, it will be launched in two variants- petrol and diesel. The diesel run model will have a V6 engine with a 3 litre fuel capacity, offering a maximum power output of 297 bhp and a torque of 600 Nm. The petrol run model has a super charged V8 engine with a fuel capacity of 5 litres, offering a maximum power output of 510 bhp and a torque of 625 Nm. Both the variants will offer an all wheel drive system only which will be mated to an 8 speed ZF auto transmission. The car will not see any localized production and will be imported into the country as Completely Built Units (CBUs).
The 2014 Range Rover Sport is expected to cost around Rs 78 lacs. The super charged V8 petrol variant can be priced somewhere around Rs 92 lacs by the company.
