Volvo Auto India launched the 2014 Volvo S80 facelift at its lounge of Terminal 3 of the New Delhi airport. The starting variant D4 is priced at Rs 41.35 lakh and the D5 variant is tagged at Rs 44.8 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
The Volvo S80 is a direct competitor to Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Jaguar XF, Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series in India due to its price tag. Otherwise, in abroad, the Swedish carmaker is positioned in the line of other poorman’s Mercedes category. Hopefully, this new S80 too will be imported into the country as a CBU (completely built-up units), which seems to be the major reason of its high risen prices. In fact, making it more brief, the 2014 Volvo S80 is the same sedan which the carmaker had unveiled it last year at the Geneva Motor Show. However, the facelifted S60 and XC60 were unveiled at that same motoring event of Swiss, but fortunately they made to India last year itself soon after their global debut.
Now the gist of all, powering to new S80 in D4 variant comes from a 2.0-liter inline five-cylinder diesel engine producing 163 hp @ 3,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque. Whereas, the premium trim i.e. Volvo S80 D5 jets its feed from a 2.4-liter inline five-cylinder engine producing the same amount of torque, but a higher 215 hp @ 4,000 rpm.
For the last, at the sides, Volvo too announced its new lounge at the New Delhi airport. For the lounge, Volvo says, it will be exclusively available to its customers.
