The Japanese automaker Toyota has been trying to keep the images and information of its new 4×4 medium-sized vehicle under wraps, but in the last couple of weeks, Thailand-based forums and sites have been posting pictures of the thing as it has been transported around that country with monotonous regularity. Here’s the most revealing and latest bunch of images!
Seriously the executives at Toyota must be spitting chips right now. As you can see in the leaked pictures, the Fortuner looks sleeker with design language more in line with current gen Toyota off-road vehicles. It’s still one of the rugged-looking SUVs out there with front styling not based on Hilux pickup truck. Indeed, it adds a distinctive grille and front end with foglamp and bumper treatment and sweeping headlamps.
From the sides, you can notice the next-gen Fortuner gets Range Rover-esque floating roof, whereas sweeping rear brake lights cap off a more rounded looking exterior. On the inside, you will find a fully redesigned dashboard, waterfall designed center console with upgraded infotainment system. Carefully placed brushed silver and wood accents and vertically arranged HVAC vents compliment the dashboard theme.
Standard safety features on 2016 Toyota Fortuner include VSC, seven airbags, DAC (Downhill Assist Control), A-TRC (Active Traction Control), Hill Assist Control, rear AC vents, Smart entry with a push button start, Start-Stop system and follow-me lights. Motivation for the Fortuner will come from a series of turbodiesel powerplants – 4-cylinder 2.8 liter that’s good at 177 horsepower with 450 newton meters of torque, while 4-cylinder 2.4 liter engine that generates 150 horsepower with 343 newton meters. There’s also a petrol unit – VVT-I 4-cylinder 2.7 liter one, which is good for churning out 122 horsepower and 245 newton meters.
Available in six trim levels, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be paired with 6-speed automatic and manual transmission with four-wheel drive system. We will have to wait till the official details of the vehicle. Stay tuned to us over the coming weeks for more!
