The moment when ‘Fiat’ pops up in a newspaper ad, it is always looked upon as a people mover in its fashionable Italian manner. Now, that image is going to be shredded and a new one in its place will be spruced up soon. This Multijet diesel engine maker is now reported of launching Abarth 595 Competizione by next month in India.
After Avventura, this product too is going to cater the lifestyle segment – only a niche part of the market – where 595 doesn’t have any of those ferns and frills to captivate the value for money admirers.
Despite small in size this hatchback or rather say compact, Abarth 595 Competizione comes packed with a 1368cc turbocharged petrol engine producing 158bhp of max power and 231Nm of peak torque from four-cylinders. Motor comes mated to a five-speed AMT gearbox where all the power is sent to those chunky 17-inch wheels. On the dimensional note, Competizione measures less than 4 meter at length i.e. 3657mm, 1627mm on width and 1485mm in height. The wheelbase is of 2300mm and it tips the weighing scale at 1155kg. As the said model plate is a sports hatchback of Fiat, ground clearance is quite low at 105mm which may scratch its belly over Mt. Everest resembling speed-breakers of India.
On the exteriors, front grille, door handles mirror caps are given graphite finish. Interiors too is demonstrated to carry over that racy feel hugging through Sabelt race seats, flat-bottomed steering wheel and machine alloys made foot pedals. Graphite finish for dashboard and LCD display for instrument cluster charms the package further.
Estimated price of Fiat’s Abarth 595 Competizione in India can be worked out somewhere in between Rs 27-30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which the maker said to sell it in limited numbers only.
