Tata Motors has finally launched their much-awaited Safari SUV in the Indian market. The new Tata Safari SUV is offered with a price tag ranging between Rs 14.69 lakh – Rs 21.45 lakh, ex-showroom (Delhi).
The Safari is now the newest flagship offering in Tata Motors’ product lineup in the Indian market, positioned above its five-seater Harrier sibling. Bookings for the SUV have already begun, with deliveries for the same said to begin shortly.
The Tata Safari will be offered in a range of six variants: XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. The SUV further comes with the option of having either a six or seven-seater configuration.
The six-seater variant (exclusive to the top XZ+ trim) will come with individual captain seats in the second row, replacing the bench seats from the standard seven-seater trims. Tata Motors has also introduced a new ‘Adventure Edition’ of the Safari, based on the top-spec XZ+ trim.
The new Tata Safari Adventure Persona comes with an exclusive ‘Mystic Blue’ paint scheme, with blacked-out elements all around. The Tata Safari will continue to feature the brand’s latest ‘Impact 2.0′ design language, while also being underpinned by the OMEGA architecture; based on the D8 platform of Land Rover.
The new Safari will also carry forward most of the design and styling elements from its Harrier sibling, with most of the changes being at the rear of the car. This includes a more upright tailgate with a revised set of LED taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler with an LED stop lamp.
Other design changes on the exteriors include a longer overhang, a stepped roof, newly designed alloy wheels and a larger quarter panel. Inside, the overall dashboard and cabin layout at the front remains the same. The Safari carries forward most of the features and elements from the Harrier.
This includes the same semi-digital instrument cluster, steering-mounted controls and even the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Tata Safari though now comes with the brand’s iRA connected technology, which can be paired with a smartphone via a dedicated app. The connected tech offers a host of new features, along with remote access, voice assistance and many others.
The other main changes come in the form of the addition of the third row, a panoramic sunroof, new Benecke Kaliko Oyster White premium leather interiors, electric parking brake, third-row AC vents, 9-speaker JBL audio system and plenty of others. Powering the new Tata Safari is the same 2.0-litre diesel engine as on the Harrier.
This unit produces 168bhp and 350Nm of peak torque and is mated to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. All the power is sent to the front wheels via a 2WD system as standard across all variants.
