Ather Energy has confirmed the launch of its electric scooter, the Ather 340 on June 5th.
The scooter has been in development for four years and is likely to be priced around the Rs.1.1 lakh mark, which would make it the most expensive locally built scooter in India. The project has had many bumps along the way, but also received great support from various quarters.
For instance, it received $1 million funding from Flipkart founders Sachin and Binny Bansal in 2014. Later in 2016, Hero MotoCorp invested Rs.206 crores in the company. The company has a manufacturing plant in Whitefield, Bengaluru with a capacity to build 20,000 scooters per annum.
