Every year, the world car of the year gets all the eyeballs set on it. This time the four-ringed German auto brand Audi managed to snatch the title from others, and that too not with a heavy weight, but the smallest of its repertoire the “A3”.
Audi A3 is referred as the premium compact car, and it is in the third generation of its life cycle. In the history of past ten years, this is the second time that Ingolstadt based carmaker has won the said title; initially it was the A6 who brought the trophy to home for same in 2005.
Though, it wasn’t a cakewalk for the A3 to walk the red carpet for receiving this 2014 world car of the year award. The competition was aligned to overcome the 23 other cars to from various brands. The judges who made this smallest Audi a winner were infused of an international jury panel comprising of 69 top-level automotive journalists from 22 countries around the world.
Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, said, “The Audi A6 was the first ever winner of this award and we are delighted that the Audi A3 has repeated that achievement by being voted 2014 World Car of the Year. The Audi A3 showcases Audi’s technical competence in all aspects of carmaking, not least in the areas of lightweight technology, drivetrain, mobile infotainment and driver assistance systems. This major award win is an achievement that the whole company can celebrate”.
The new Audi A3 is available as a 3 door, Sportback, Cabriolet and Sedan. It is deployed with a range of TFSI gasoline and TDI diesel engines.
Audi A3 first generation was launched in 1996. It was the car that created altogether a new segment in the market – the premium compact class. When the second generation launched in 2003, the brand extended its legacy by an addition of a Cabriolet to the familiar 3 door and Sportback body styles.
