The 2014 Auto Expo is just around the corner and it is surely going to be a treat for Audi fanatics and performance enthusiasts. The new Audi R18 e-tron quattro is expected to debut at the upcoming Auto Expo. The new Audi R18 e-tron quattro follows a concept of its own. It was the winner of the 2012 24 Hours of Le Man. The hybrid drive has been designed for motorsport conditions by LMP1 prototype. One must not forget that Audi was the first participant to win the Le Mans with a hybrid drive system. With the Audi R18 e-tron quattro, Audi made motorsport history in 2012.
This new Audi R18 e-tron quattro belonging to the 2014 generation is one of the most complex race cars that the company has ever built. At the first glance, the car looks similar to the winner of Le Mans for the past two years and to the car that won the World Championship. However, on the contrary, as per the new LMP1 regulations of 2014, every single component has been redeveloped by Audi Sport.
Wolfgang Ullrich, the head of Audi Motorsport, has pointed out that Audi R18 e-tron quattro is a completely new generation of the Le Mans prototype. The head of LMP, Chris Reinke, has pointed out that the regulations of LMP1 have been changed with the intention of limiting the energy consumption and not the power output of the car. They have done so with respect to the needs of the current times, which will also offer engineers more technical freedom.
