German luxury auto-giant, Audi has been reported to gear up to break the ice of developing its maiden multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). The manufacturer’s product is being anticipated to hit the showrooms sometime in 2016.
Word is, the upcoming maiden MPV (to be named with ‘V’ initial, like V3 or V4) is to be sitting on longer and wider modular MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group. In fact, the same platform can be seen in the Audi A3 and VW’s forthcoming Golf Mk7 models as well.
Audi’s Chief for Sales & Marketing, Peter Schwarzenbauer was spotted stating that the automaker is looking forward to develop a minivan with a sporty appearance. He added that the MPV would be offered in both, six and seven seat options.
Moreover, the upcoming maiden MPV is being expected to be a bit different from a true MPV. Reports suggest that the minivan might look like a high-roof version of the A4 Avant with two rows of seat.
Taking a glance under the hood, the Audio MPV I is being anticipated to feature a hybrid engine too, beyond turbocharged petrol and diesel powerhouses. It’s just not the platform of the A3 that the Audi MPV would share. Word is, the engine line-up too is to be kept the same as that of the Audi A3. The German car manufacturer didn’t reveal a single thing beyond what has been mentioned above.
All we can do now is to just wait and watch for the news to come in from the manufacturer’s side for further details. Let’s hope Audi would step up to make the entry of its entry-level multi-purpose vehicle with a bang. It’s just that we have to wait for a few more years to witness the bang though, till 2016.
