Bajaj Auto has become the first homegrown manufacturer to enter the electric space for scooters. Under the new Urbanite segment, Bajaj Auto, has unveiled it first electric scooter with old iconic name, Chetak.
Chetak has only been revealed as of now, the e-scooter will go on sale from January 2020. It’ll be officially launched in Pune first followed by Bengaluru.The Chetak, apart from a thoroughly modern makeover, gets modern equipment too. To give the product a premium feel, Chetak gets a handful of upmarket features as well, like feather-touch activated switchgear, sequential scrolling LED blinkers, soft opening glove box & a dampened seat closing mechanism. To maximise longevity and sturdy looks, the new Chetak also gets a full steel body.
The scooter has two riding modes – Eco and Sport with a range of 95Km and 85Km respectively. It has regenerative braking that helps maximise its range. Chetak will be available in 6 colour options. There will be no Bajaj branding on the scooter. The price of Chetak won’t be more than Rs. 1 lac, since they have complied to take benefits under FAME 2 scheme.
Talking about the engine, the Chetak e-scooter is powered by an IP67-rated Li-ion battery that can be easily charged with a standard 5/15A electrical socket. An home-charging station would be available at an additional cost.
To commemorate this launch the “Chetak Electric Yatra” was flagged off by Shri Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shri Amitabh Kant, CEO Niti Ayog in New Delhi today. Riders on 20 Chetaks will traverse through North and Western India to travel approximately 3000 kms each to a rousing welcome at Pune in Maharashtra.
