The first quadricycle from the Bajaj stable has been launched. Christened the RE 60 (Qute), it has been priced approximately at $2000. The RE 60 was first seen at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo and is being called a quadricycle and not a car.
The RE 60 has passed the EU WVTA (European Whole Vehicle Type Approval) and as per Bajaj, these are one of the toughest Safety and Environment regulations globally. This has been a very challenging project for the company and the credit for the certification is being given to the efforts of the Rheinland engineers of the company. They have been authorised and qualified by the European Approval Authorities [Ministry of Transport] and have been conducting the component and vehicle tests here in India.
The quadricycle itself is powered by a 216cc triple spark water cooled DTS-i four-valve engine and has a top speed of 70 kmph. The 216cc engine delivers about 20PS in terms of power and comes mated to a four-speed transmission. As per Bajaj, the vehicle can give a mileage of more than 35kmpl and has extremely low CO2 emissions which are pegged at a mere 60g/km. the RE 60 will come with both LPG and CNG as an option.
However, the quadricycle is still not up for sale here in India as the Supreme Court is yet to give its approval to it. Bajaj though, will be exporting it through its various units to across the globe and in particular to the European countries.
