Mumbai based Basecamp, known for marketing travel equipment and outdoor sports equipment in India, has launched the first ever caravan range in New Delhi. The caravan range has been produced under a partnership with Germany based Hymer and Dethleffs. Two models were rolled out namely Hymer Sporting 465 priced at Rs.22 lakh and Dethleffs New Line 410 TK priced at Rs.16 lakh. For now both the caravans are to be imported from Germany, but later based on the demands company may starts its production in India also.
Basecamp has already been dealing with various international brands like Maglite, Wegner and Victorinox in India. It is now aiming to sell about 600 caravans within next year. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Anish Goel, MD said that in its first year Basecamp has predicted a sale figure of about 600 units and if it manages to sell anywhere around this number then it would be quite encouraging for the company.
Discussing the possibility of caravan manufacture in India, he further added that the company is currently looking at the assembly here and would like to manufacture these caravans here also and if they did so the prices are surely to go down.
The company has already invested around Rs.10 crore and in planning to invest more to build up sales and other infrastructure that will help it to expand caravan sales in India. The caravans will be delivered within 45-90 days from the date of order.
The company has also informed that they have made ties with the Haryana tourism and Baharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd to promote the caravan segment in India. The BPCL has agreed to provide parking facilities to the caravans at some of their petrol outlets at the highways and Haryana tourism will be offering parking areas at its Yatri Niwas compounds.
