Auto Expo is the flagship event of the Indian Automobile Industry hosted by ACMA, CII & SIAM. This is one event, where all the automobile manufacturers across the country showcase their upcoming vehicles, future concepts and vision. Auto Expo is held every two years.
The venue earlier was Pragati Maidan, but for the past few years it has moved to Greater Noida. The upcoming Auto Expo will be held in Feb 2020 and we have some news to share.
This year the auto enthusiasts and professionals will be disappointed to know that most of the big names from the automobile manufacturers are going to give it a miss. Brands like Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motors, Royal Enfield, Honda Cars, Toyota, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover and Audi have decided to give the event a miss. Other brands who are not participating are Jeep, Ford, Lexus, Fiat and Harley Davidson, while companies such as Honda 2wheelers and Nissan are still considering their options.
The reasons for the brands to backout mainly is the cost of participation compared to the benefits and the current state of the Indian auto industry. Another reason is the BS6 compliance coming into force from April 2020.
One of the participants said that the spend is anywhere upwards of Rs 30 Crore for a credible participation, constructing the stage and and getting in the new cars included the imported ones, local and overseas staff, hotels and logistics while the returns are minimum compared to the spend and the effort. While some of the companies would be obligated to participate, some are taking hard calls and decided not to participate. We’ll have to wait and watch to see the final list of participants. Which brand are you looking forward to watch out in Auto Expo 2020?
