Some spy pictures of the BMW 2 Series MPV has surfaced on the web. It was earlier shown as the BMW Concept Active Tourer and is a 1 Series based MPV.
The car is expected be offered all around the world with the option of both long as well as standard wheelbase. It will be available in seven as well as five seat layout, and is said to be based on the UKL1 platform that covers 12 different categories of the BMW 2 series, BMW 1 series as well as the new BMW Mini range. This plan allows the BMW group to get an advantage over its competitors as a result of economies of scale, because of which the company has planned to produce and sell more than 900,000 cars in a year. UKL1 stands for the Unter Klasse, which means sub class that offers a wide variety of engines that have been transversely mounted.
The four-wheel drive concept will make its debut at the Freidrichshafen fair in Germany early next year, and although it is a concept car, it is expected to be produced in the near future. If one watches closely, the car has extremely spacious interiors with a practical body shape. The interiors of the car are very much in the concept stage and hence expected to be different from that of the earlier BMW models. It is expected that the curved and layered effects of the dashboard will remain the same.
The car is expected to be powered by a 67bhp electric motor and a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The car will also have an option for the consumer between the conventional diesel and petrol engines. The car is said to go from 0 to 62mph in less than eight seconds with a fuel economy of 113mpg a 60g/km carbon dioxide emission.
