The i8 sports coupe of BMW will be showcased at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo that will be held in New Delhi. The car is said to become the new flagship for sports cars that are high-tech and have a carbon-fiber body. It is also one of the priciest models from the BMW stables coming in at a whopping Rs.1.5 crore.
The car is launched by the company so that it can showcase the technology that they have. The company is not planning to launch the BMW i3 electric car at the 2014 Auto Expo, and so the enthusiasts who are waiting for the car should no longer wait as it is not expected to be launched in the Indian market as per the reports of the company.
Along with the existence of the “M” brand cars and the luxury cars that the company already manufactures, the sub brands of the electric and the hybrid BMW “I” vehicles, will also exist in the market. BMW i8 claims to have the efficiency of a compact car with a performance that matches up to a sports car. As a result of its electric motor and the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine, the car produces a peak power of up to 375bhp. The car can go from 0 to 100kmph in span of 4.5 seconds because of the lightweight aluminium and carbon-fiber construction. The interiors and exteriors of the car will help in the designing of the future BMW cars. The delivery of the i8 Hybrid, BMW sports car is expected to begin by the end of 2014 or early 2015 in India.
