The wait is bound to get over. BMW announced the launch date for its i8 in India. Reportedly, it is going to happen on February 18, 2015, and the price tag is apparently slimmed to attract number of buyers from the upper class.
The hybrid sprotscar i8 is a first such offering from the carmaker and was unveiled amongst a huge fanfare at Frankfurt Auto show 2013, where afterwards its first unveiling on the Indian soil took place at Delhi Auto Expo 2014.
Like any other sportscar, it is low slung and stylish at the same time. Someone has even said, buying i8 is like owning a concept car, touted on the basis of its exterior appeal. The hint of blue is extravagantly used in the paint scheme. Those who had driven it say, the car is also boasted of daily drivability, which at times isn’t successful of delivering an experience like Porsche 911 and such.
For the technical heads, BMW i8 is driven by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, accompanied by electronic motor. The gasoline engine consists of three-cylinder and turbocharger delivers 228bhp solely, where the electric drivetrain sends another 129bhp, which in total makes a whopping 357bhp. All these endowment claims i8 to clock the 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, limiting it to clock a restricted top-speed of 250km/h. The great fact of this car is, despite being added with a huge battery pack it still weighs only 1490kgs, all thanks to the maximum use of carbon fibre.
