BMW Motorsport is concentrating a lot on Juniors these days, and they should be, because the competition at down-the-line is also not a cakewalk.
The BMW Motorsport Juniors, Jake Hughes (GB), Jesse Krohn (FI), Alexander Mies (DE) and Moisés Soriano (ES), attended a three-day mental and simulator training course at iZone Driver Performance Centre in Silverstone (GB) starting on the eve of Whitsun.
Prof. Dr. Dieter Hackfort (DE) was entitled to train them on how to visualize a racetrack and deploy those techniques in actual conditions. Each of them was given with the tailored schedule to suit their individual capabilities and needs. And apart from the mental and simulator training, fitness was also a part of their regime.
“The results of all four participants were very good,” said Hackfort. “You could see that they are no beginners and worked in a very professional manner to implement our instructions. We tested their ability to use mental visualisation to improve their lap times, on both a circuit they were familiar with and a completely new circuit. There were significant improvements in both cases. This confirms that we have selected the right candidates as BMW Motorsport Juniors.”
The BMW Motorsport Juniors will now be putted to test their skills in the BMW M235i Racing which will take place in Spa-Francorchamps (BE) on 24th and 25th June. Four of them will then contest the first of three VLN races at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (DE) in this car on 5th July.
