May 29, 2014 marks the date when the Bavarian automaker will be introducing its third gen X5 SUV in India. Revealed at the Auto Expo this year, the vehicle was scheduled to make its debut by the festive season. Nevertheless, the growing competition has forced the automaker to pre-pone the launch. With more enhanced dimensions unlike its predecessor, the X5 will be lighter due to integration of several weight saving measures, while it will be available in five and seven seater options.
The BMW X5 was first launched in 2013 in May. To come in with 3.0 liter diesel engine also seen on board BMW 530d and 730d sedan, the powerplant is capable of churning out 258 horsepower. Besides this, a 2.0 liter diesel powerplant capable of 218 horsepower can also be expected. Dubbed xDrive 25d, this trim will compete against Mercedes Benz ML250 CDI.
Prior to introduction of the forthcoming BMW X5, which will be assembled in India from CKD kits at the automaker’s facility in Chennai, company dealers have commenced taking in bookings with a down payment of Rs. 5 lakhs. Promising deliveries by early June this year! The all-new X5, once launched, will command a price of Rs. 68 lakhs for the base 5-seater and Rs. 72 lakhs for the range-topping 7-seater version.
The 3rd gen BMW X5 SUV offers a sportier stance, more fuel efficiency and better performance unlike the outgoing model. The list of specifications to be noted on board will include Lane Departure Warning, Active Driving Assistant, full range camera radar cruise control, Traffic Jam Assistant and Pedestrian Collision System. Head up Display, Parking Assistance and BMW Night Vision is also to be offered along with Active Blind Spot Detection and Surround View System.
