Indian ace formula racer, Sailesh Bolisetti has been signed by Lotus Sport UK to race in the upcoming 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship. The racing Turk who hails from Visakhapatnam will be seen racing the circuit in the Lotus Evora GT4. Incidentally, this very sports model car reined in three wins in 2011.
Bolisetti has shown great grit in the toughest of challenges and has been pitted against the very best in sport car racing and had decisively announced his arrival by winning the 2010 Volkwagen Polo Cup. So impressed were the owners that he was inducted (an endorsement of sorts) into the Volkswagen Scirocco R Cup, a shore up for European DTM Championship.
A statement released by Gary Ayles, team manager of Lotus Sport UK mentions that Sailesh was an incomparable talent discovered outside Europe and was a “star in the making.” Ayles further mentioned that he had kept an eye on Sailesh and was in contact with him through his contacts within the AIGP India team. The rest as they say is history, with Bolisetti raring to go at the British GT, a move that would be watched by the whole world and his countless fans.
Bolisetti who began his racing career in 2007, was placed overall 3rd in the 2009 Super Saloons JK National Racing Championship 2009 and went on to win the MRF racing challenge in 2010. He was also placed overall 15th in the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup in 2011.
Bolisetti looks objectively at this “great” opportunity, mentioning that an association with brand Lotus Sport UK commands a “rich pedigree” with diverse range of disciplines. He acknowledged this opportunity as a privilege and said that there was no pressure. The young racing star from India expressed his eagerness to work for a team, which had all his heroes and sporting legends.
The British GT flags off at Oulton Park on April 7th and will feature seven races. Preparing for this race Bolisetti will be seen working the circuit at Indian Super Series in Asia and then in the Middle -East.
A notable statistic is that Sailesh Bolisetti is the first racer from the Indian sub-continent to be endorsed by Lotus Sport UK.
