Chevrolet Spark 2012 in India: Review

Just like other automakers, General motors have also geared up for the festive season with the launch of the facelift version of their Spark hatch. The facelifted version of the Spark was revealed on 25th October, this year in the Indian market. In a country that cares for small cars, the new Spark is ought to fetch some good sales for General Motor. The facelift comes with new clear glass jewel effect headlamps, two part grille, redesigned front bumper and sporty signs on bonnet.

The new Spark has also incorporated new changes like dual tone interiors, new instrument cluster and optimax cabin. The car is quite a great deal with the company’s 3 year warranty and low cost of maintenance. With all new interiors and refreshing exteriors the car will appeal more to youth. Since most of the automakers are busy in redesigning their popular models with contemporary styling, Chevy has put some extra work to make its Spark stand distinct in the crowd. The new Spark will in direct competition with Hyundai Eon, Maruti Alto 800, WagonR etc.

Interiors

The new Spark has also given lot of attention towards the new fabric upholstery. Brilliantly designed roofline with dual tone interiors, gives the car an overhaul. The rear seats have been repositioned to provide a better outside view to the passengers.

The dashboard has also been tweaked with silver finish. The new optimax cabin and instrument cluster inspired by wing design gives this car some serious interior upgrades.

Exterior

The new Spark has been tweaked with various exterior upgrades giving it a contemporary look and design. Bumpers, grille and headlights have been revamped. The bumpers and front grille have been redesigned into two port giving it more of Chevy look. It inherits the two port grille lined with honeycomb structure to make this car more of a Chevrolet statement. The headlamps have been given a clear jewel touch.

The satin silver roof rails also give this car a distinctive look.

Engine and performance

The new Spark is powered by a powerfull 995cc 8V SOHC Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection petrol engine that delivers about 63 bhp of power and a peak torque of about 90.3 Nm at 4200 rpm. The engine has been coupled with 5 speed manual transmission.

The car is a high performer with the incredibly powerful engine. The new spark can reach form 0 to 100 kmph in just 16 seconds and has a top speed of about 155 to 157 kmph. The smooth gear shifts and effortless handling ensures that this Chevy delivers you much more than just a driving experience.

Comfort

The new car has been branded with tons of features that are aimed at providing comfort and convenience to the commuters. These features comprises of AC, Glove Box, Cup holders in the front console, remote release of tailgate, bottle holders on the front door, Low fuel warning systems, passenger side sun visor, shopping hooks at the back of the seat, rear wiper, night and day rear view mirror, Remote fuel filler adjustable headlights, front room lamp, rear defogger and double folding seats.

The more advanced changes include 2-din audio system, Power windows and 60:40 splits.

Safety

The new Spark 2012 is quite packed heavily with the plenty of active and passive safety system that ensures that you drive safely to your love ones. These features include stylish fog lamps, X-Pro safety system, Hexa-longi frame and rear reflector tail lamps.

Fuel Economy

The new Chevrolet Spark delivers fuel economy of about 18 kmpl through its petrol version and about 13.2 kmpl with the LPG version.

GM has kept this low cost car in the price segment of Rs.3.16 lakhs to Rs.3.99 lakhs. (prices are at ex-showroom Delhi)
