Chevrolet to Quit World Touring Car Championship

Chevrolet European’s arm has made an official announcement to leave the World Touring Car Championship immediately after the final race of the current season 2012. The announcement was made well in advance so that the drivers of the Car Championship and other associates can look for other means of livelihood.

Susan Docherty, the President and Managing Director of Chevrolet’s European division, said in a statement, ”Following a strategic review of our motorsport and marketing programs we have decided to leave the FIA World Touring Car Championship at the end of the 2012 season to focus our Chevrolet brand activities in other areas.”

Chevrolet to Quit World Touring Car Championship

Even though Chevrolet has won 59 races and two Drivers’ Championships and Constructors’ Championships over the last eight years, there are no specific reasons given to support the decision to quit the championship. Even in the current 2012 season the Chevrolet Team is believed to be in the lead for both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships. The team is just looking forward to carry their last trophies home under the leading Chevrolet banner.
