As we are already informed about the 2014 Hyundai i10 doing test rounds in India, now news got another twist that facelift of Eon is also being called by the automaker to deliver the new innings alongside its elder sibling on our local shores, which we had been tipped via the spotted test mules of both alongside each other.
Snapped by one of the OD readers, test mules seems have been captured in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, where the Eon is visible in the extreme left of the image, and a couple of 2014 Hyundai i10 leading forward the testing parade in all the pride.
Covered under the heavy dose of camouflage, there seems the carmaker may make changes to the bonnet, boot lid and to an extent tail lamps too. Perfectly slotted under the guise of Santro in the Hyundai repertoire, it sits in competition with the Maruti Suzuki Alto which is being sold in about 23,000 numbers a month. However, the Eon can only make around 8,000 units a month; the car is in tremendous need of going the facelift to counter refreshed face of Alto called as ‘Alto 800’.
Overall, it will be a cosmetic change, the technical specifications is said to remain unchanged with the 814cc petrol engine that may come with an LPG option too. Hyundai’s Chennai plant is the only facility where the Eon is made and exported to markets of Vietnam and Philippines.
Launch may happen by the end of this year, 2014 Delhi Auto Expo seems far from the market penetration point of view of the Hyundai.
