Fiat performance hatchbacks are the next word to go by. But since this Italian carmaker wasn’t geared up exactly in the lifestyle segment during the recent past, there wasn’t a silver line in the cloud. Now, as the market has opened up after the elections and is showing positive response, Fiat feels betting its Abarth 595 Competizione in India suitable.
Reportedly, the Autocar Performance Show that will be held in Mumbai during December 11-14, 2014 will host the unveiling of same. In fact, the company had already rolled out Fiat 500 in this country during 2008 employed with 1.3-litre Multi-jet diesel engine, due to the lackluster in demand it loses out on the battle and tumbled on the ground flat on its head.
In another effort to win big from the scenario, Abarth 595 Competizione comes powered by a 1368cc 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine churning out the maximum power of 158bhp and 210Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox. There aren’t options of manual transmission yet. In the sports mode, the torque can be notched to 230Nm. Rubbers shod on the 17-inch wheels are of Pirelli measuring 205/40 in size.
On the dimensions, it is 3,657mm in length, 1,627mm on width and 1,485mm in height. The door handles are given the finish of graphite, which the radiator grille and even wing mirrors are of the same typos. Interiors get Sabelt race seats, whereas foot paddles are of made of the machine alloys, and steering is flat-bottomed. On the instrument panel, LCD gets digital display instead of the analogue cluster.
However, there are confirmations that only limited numbers of it will be sold, which for the expected price Fiat will slot between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 30 lakh.
