Great Wall Motors of China is looking to bring its Haval H5 SUV to India. But this SUV in India will most probably be marketed by ICML, who recently showcased its Windy and Oyster pick-up trucks and the Qualis based Rhino MUV at the Auto Expo in Delhi. The Haval H5 has recently been spotted on the roads of Chandigarh, where the company is testing the vehicle out for Indian road conditions.
The Haval H5 is marketed as the X240 in some other markets and will be sold in India as either a five-seater or a seven-seater vehicle. It is not yet known if the vehicle will come with automatic or manual transmission. In other markets, the Haval H5 is sold as both a four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive vehicles. Which of these versions will be made available in India is still not known.
Design of the H5 is stylish and up-market. 2700 mm wheelbase of this vehicle is identical to the Mahindra XUV500 and a tad bit more than the Tata Safari Storme. In other markets, the Haval H5 is powered by a 2.4 liter petrol engine that produces a peak power of 134 BHP and peak torque of 30.5kgm. Whether or not, a diesel variant will be made available, is yet a mystery.
