Honda Siel Cars India has re-opened bookings of its mid-segment hatch, Honda Brio. The car can be booked through all company dealers in India. Honda will try to clear the backlog of Brio bookings by the end of March, and reduce the waiting period of new bookings to max of 60days.
Brio’s production was stopped in December last year, after the Tsunami hit in March followed by floods in Thailand, which affected the production drastically.
Apparently, Honda sources the parts from its alternate markets such as Japan and China, to make up for the production loss. These arrangements seem to be working the company out of its difficult phase.
About a week ago, we gave the news of Honda returning to full capacity production at its manufacturing facility in India. With this, the Japanese auto maker is aiming to double the existing production of 370 cars a day by next week by operating two shifts per day.
The two Honda hatches-Brio and Jazz, share similar engine, but the Jazz comes under the premium hatch segment, while Brio is mid-segment hatch powered by 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, producing a max of 89 bhp and 189 Nm of torque. This motor is mated with a five-speed manual gearbox and offers decent mileage.
Honda Brio price starts from Rs 3.95 lacs and goes upto 5.10 lacs (ex showroom Delhi).
We also gave the news of Honda bringing new diesel variants of the two hatches by next year. Honda seems to buckling up to take the market of hatches in India.
