Honda has revealed its new Civic Tourer and has declared that it will make its first public appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2013, starting on 10th of September. This new car will go on sale in Europe in early 2014. New Civic Tourer has been created by the company’s European studio. The car has been designed in such a way that it is sleek, sophisticated and yet very practical.
The new Civic Tourer endorses modified lines and glasswork which makes this new model more aggressive and muscular below its shoulder. The car has a lower load height which gives an easy access to the slightly elevated floor. This offers a flat surface when we fold the back seats. The Civic Tourer has been known for its amazing interior space and this new model keeps up with the expectation. The car has a boot capacity of 624 liters, from window line to the floor, when the back seats are up. The luggage carrying capacity can be increased to an astounding 1,668 liters when the back set as are folded.
The car will be launched with 2 engine options. There will either be a 1.6 i DTEC Earth Dreams engine or the i VTEC petrol engine on 1.8 liter capacity. The car will have the option of manual as well as auto transmission. The adaptive damper system (ADS) offers a performance, as elegant as the car’s looks. 3 settings will be available which are Comfort, Normal and Dynamic which can be chosen depending upon the driving condition and luggage load.
Large Project Leader of Civic Tourer, Adrian Killham, said that “I am very proud of the Civic Tourer’s sporty, sleek and dynamic proportions, which somewhat hide the car’s true functionality and versatility. To achieve true utility on a compact car, you have to consider how to make the most of the space in the cabin, which generally also affects the design. Due to the clever platform of the Civic, we had freedom to optimize the package. The end result is a car that has almost a sports-car silhouette. For me, the strength of the car is the synergy of functionality, versatility, and dynamic expression.”
The car looks extremely sporty due its unique designing. The car shows a bold line that runs from its A pillar to D pillar. This gives the viewer a perception of a floating roof. Adrian Killham added that “At first glance it is clear that the Civic Tourer does not look like other Wagons. Recently- launched cars have tended to follow a similar style. The Civic Tourer has a different balance and appeal.”
The Civic Tourer shares its magic back seats with Honda Jazz. This feature is a “fold forward front passenger seat”. The plus point is that the max load bay length is only 1.8m. The car’s wheelbase and height are similar to that of Civic hatchback. The rear floor pan has been stretched which gives the car an overhang of 1040 mm which is 235 mm longer than the Civic hatch.
The new Civic Tourer will be manufactured at the company’s UK manufacturing unit and will be launched in Europe in early 2014.
