How Active are you? That’s what Hyundai wants to ask everyone who will buy their new i20 Active – the crossover type variant of Elite i20, like Fiat Avventura and Etios Cross. Launched for a starting price of Rs 6.38 lakh with the petrol engine and Rs 7.63 lakh in the diesel trim, overall five trims are available including both the trims.
Hyundai doesn’t seemed to target the huge numbers with this Active, rather would sell it as a lifestyle product. Compared to the standard i20 Active receives plastic cladding around the base at the bottom, changed front grille, new front and rear bumper with rounded fog lamps, projector lamps and daytime running lamps used, new fuel enclosing lid and gloss finish on C-pillar. Skid plates, roof rails and new alloy wheels are the obvious ones.
The cabin appears carried over from the Elite i20 but the designers have worked out new combination to give a kind of change. To name them, lighter shades on outer get blue-black theme in the cabin, and the darker ones go with all black mentioning orange on some accents and gear lever.
Above all, a major correction that Active i20 received which distinct it from the hatchback trim and makes to stand up in the line of crossovers is the ground clearance, notched by 20mm from the Elite i20’s 190mm.
Hence, the aforementioned spunk grant the newbie a fresh image, where the engine continues to do the same with its 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel. The former produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The latter is found worth of 89bhp and 220Nm of torque after mating to a six-speed manual gearbox.
