While almost every automaker is trying to come up with new diesel versions of their popular vehicles, the latest addition comes from the factory of Hyundai. Hyundai is planning to launch their popular hatchback i10 in diesel variant. Some of the sources have confirmed that Hyundai has preponed its plan of launching i10 diesel and Indians will be seeing it quite earlier than speculated. Earlier it was scheduled to launch in the second quarter of 2013, but as for now it will be in the market during the first quarter itself.
However, company has not yet revealed anything about the engine, but speculations are that the new generation i10 will be housing a 3-cylinder diesel engine. The same is likely powering the facelift i20, which was revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor show and was aimed at the increase in demand for the compact hatchbacks with optimum fuel efficiency.
The 1.1 liter U-II diesel engine churns out maximum power of about 74 bhp and peak torque of about 180 Nm. So, if the same mill is used in the i10 then it will be able to deliver a mileage that will be at par with its close competitors like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Maruti Ritz, Chevrolet Sail U-VA and Fiat Punto.
The new vehicle may cost about Rs.50,000 to Rs.60,000 more than the top petrol variant of the current i10.
