The exponential growth Indian automobile industry has witnessed humongous growth for the period 2010 and in particular the multinational companies which have recently launched the small cars are in for some really good figures. In the latest development it has been reported, wholly owned subsidiary of Ford Motors, Ford India has achieved a breath-taking feat of a record sales of 83,887 units for the period January to December 2010, courtesy to its small car Ford Figo.
Vice-president Ford India private limited, Anurag Mehrotra, according to latest reports was quoted as saying that for the period from January to December 2010, the company was able to sell 83,887 units and it tripled the sales volume with the previous year’s sale of 29,488 units. If these figures are to be analyzed on a year-on-year basis, Ford’s sales are up 172 percent compared to 2009.
Furthermore it was mentioned that to enhance its service support to the new and old customers, Ford India has been on a continuous expansion drive to increase its service and sales network across India. The company’s dealer network has inflated to 170 dealerships across 100 cities across the length and breadth of India.
The report was very upbeat about the performance of Ford’s small car the Figo, has which has been sold in good numbers thus enabling growth for the parent company. It has also earned some awards such as Economic Times, Zigwheels car of the year 2010 and the India Car Of The Year award (ICOTY 2010). It was also reported that Ford is mulling to export its cars to an additional 48 countries and at present, they are already exporting to Nepal and South Africa.
