Check out our review of the latest launch from Jeep, the Compass Trailhawk.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk 2022 badge carry forwards the Jeep’s long legacy in Off-Roading. Jeep, as an automotive brand knew how to lure off-road enthusiasts, into the compact lifestyle SUV segment. So, back in 2019, after two successful years of the Jeep Compass in India, the brand launched the Trailhawk badged Compass. Jeep Compass, which had already established itself as a tough SUV with a go-anywhere monocoque-chassis, had now got a few impressive tricks up its sleeves with the Trailhawk Badge.
The 2022 Compass Trailhawk, remains similar to the Compass in terms of the design language, the right blend of boxy lines and curves. However, the Trailhawk does get a few distinctive design elements, like the dual-tone paint job all around the body, trailhawk decals on the hood, trail-rated badges on the fenders and a proud trailhawk logo on the boot.
Further, the Trailhawk gets all season-all terrain tyres, wrapping the 17-inch off-road alloy wheels. The alloy wheels are now a notch more aggressive than before.
While the updated Trailhawk Compass has not been rendered with a lot of cosmetic changes on the outside, it does get a few mechanical updates to showcase its prowess as an off-roader. The trailhawk now sits an inch higher, owing to the raised suspension height and travel. The increased height and redesigned bumpers, translate into better approach and departure angles, along with a water wading capacity of 482 mm.
The Trailhawk continues to derive power from the 2.0 L turbocharged diesel engine, developing 170 HP & 350 Nm of Torque. This engine is coupled with a 9-Speed automatic transmission, unlike the previous generation’s 7-Speed automatic. But a thing to note about the new 9-Speed auto gearbox, the early gearshifts might not feel quick due to the short gearing ratio. But what really justifies the price tag of this Off-Road centric SUV, is the presence of a terrain select system and the low ratio gearbox. Keep in mind the gearbox is not a full bonkers, low ratio gearbox with a transfer case. It’s a standard automatic gearbox with a low ratio of 20:1, for the first & second gear, to enhance the low-end torque and crawling capabilities.
Moving inside the cabin, you get a similar layout and feature list as the updated Compass. But if you are to compare the 2022 Trailhawk with the previous generation, it has significantly changed a lot. For starters, you get a new leather-wrapped dashboard & steering wheel. It gets Trailhawk badging inside the cabin too, just in case you forget you’re not in a standard Compass.
To complement the use of leather and the Trailhawk badging, the seats and dashboard get sporty red stitching all around the edges.
Jeep has well compensated the customers with features for the lack of space in their SUV. For instance, along with the smooth 10.25-inch touch infotainment system, you get a 9-speaker surround sound system with subwoofers. To add to the comfort features, you get rain-sensing wipers, 360 degree parking camera, wireless mobile charging and ventilated front seats.
It scores well in the list of safety equipment too, as it gets 6-Airbags, Rain Brake Support, Electronic Roll Mitigation & Electronic Stability Control.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 30.72 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The competitive and introductory pricing makes this an aggressive competition between its rivals, the Hyundai Tucson & the VW Tiguan. The Trailhawk Compass, without a doubt, beats the competition when it comes to comfort and go-anywhere capabilities, which essentially is the defining feature of an SUV. So the pricing does but does not make a difference here, because the decision of buying the Trailhawk would come straight from your heart, where logic and practicality sits at the rear seat.
