Kia Motors debuted in India in 2019, by launching their mid-size SUV for the Indian Market Kia Seltos. Kia Seltos since then became one of the best selling SUVs in the Indian Market, beating segment leader Hyundai Creta.
Kia Seltos was a hit, selling more than 10,000 every month except for December. Kia Motors with just two products ranked 3rd in the market share in the Indian market behind Maruti Suzuki standing first and Hyundai Motors India standing second. Now recently Kia Seltos sold 80,000 units since its launch to date.
March 2020 has been a difficult month for the Indian automotive industry and the situation was no different for Kia. The Korean carmaker sold 8,583 units in the month, which is significantly down on the preceding month of February 2020’s dispatch number of 15,644 units. In the announcement of its sale, Kia Motors India said it had stopped its wholesale billings on March 16 2020, avoiding unsold inventory at its dealerships, in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the drop in demand.
Last month, the company managed to sell 7,466 units of the Seltos SUV and 1,117 units of the Carnival MPV. Kia sold a total of 8,583 units including 2,585 units of exports.
The Korean carmaker sold a total of 81,784 units of the Seltos ever since its launch in August last year. Its monthly sales average is over 10,000 units.
The company is quite optimistic about the sales of the Seltos and Carnival after the lockdown lifts. Keeping in mind the present situation, Kia Motors has announced the extension of its free service period by two months. During this time period, all Kia outlets are available on call and are accessible for all their requirements through Kia’s various digital channels.
