Lamborghini is giving final shape to its much touted SUV Urus and it seems the company will launch the car somewhere around 2018. This was confirmed by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann who also said that the company is planning more than one special editions of the SUV which would include a Superveloce variant.
According to the CEO, the Urus would initially be a family car where comfort would be given top most priority without compromising on signature Lamborghini speed and performance. The production version of the Lamborghini would retain the appearance of the Urus concept, while on the inside the car would be somewhat different.
Not much is known about the Urus’s powertrain, but hybrid possibility cannot be ruled out. It is believed that it would get Audi’s 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 engine along with an electric motor which will be mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. The output of the engine is stated to be somewhere around the 600HP mark.
The Urus would be built at Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata Bolognese plant in Italy, which also happens to be the company’s headquarter. The company has already received tax breaks from the Italian government to build this vehicle.
Once launched the Lamborghini Urus will compete for market space with other SUVs such as Range Rover SV Autobiography, Maserati Levante and Bentley Bentayga.
