First vehicle in the Discovery series, the Land Rover Discovery Sport has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs.46.10 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The car will be available in four different variants with the same engine and transmission across all four.
The design of the Discovery Sport has been heavily influence by the Range Rover Evoque. Certain elements have also been borrowed from the Discovery Vision Concept which was showcased at the Indian Auto Expo last year. The Discovery Sport will come in two optional seating arrangements – a five-seater and a seven-seater. This is also a first for the British carmaker.
Under the hood, the Discovery Sport 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel unit capable of churning out a peak power of 148bhp and a peak torque of 400Nm. The engine is attached to a massive nine-speed automatic transmission, which has been borrowed from the Range Rover Evoque. Apart from that the Discovery Sport comes with things like hill descent control. LRs terrain response system, ABS, roll stability control, dynamic stability control and traction control as standard features across all variants. The top end variants will get an extra feature named adaptive dynamics with MagneRide.
Some of the other features on the high-end HSE variant include LED Xenon headlights, Windsor leather seats, electrically adjustable front seats, DRLs, parking assist, Meredian surround sound system with 17 speakers etc.
In the Indian market, the Discovery Sport will compete for market space with the likes of BMW X3 and Audi Q5.
