The British Luxury car manufacturer, Land Rover, which is also a subsidiary of Tata Motors, had till recent times brought in its Freelander 2 SUV to the Indian market as a completely built up unit. The company has, however, recently taken a decision of having the SUV locally assembled in India, which has resulted in a very positive impact on the prices of the Land Rover Freelander 2 in the Indian market. The Land Rover Freelander 2 has now been made available with an introductory offer price of just Rs.33.88 Lakh. This SUV now gets imported to the country as CKD unit. It is then assembled further at the manufacturing unit of Tata Motors in Pune. The result of having the Freelander 2 SUV assembled locally has brought in certain changes to the ergonomics of this compact SUV. Changes to its interiors have given this SUV a different look.
Keeping in view the condition of the Indian roads, the SUV has now been provided with increased ground clearance. The interiors too have been raised slightly for increasing the height of the seating layout. These changes have benefitted the driver most as he is provided with an enhanced view of road conditions while driving. The passengers can also have a better view of the outside when travelling. Changes on the mechanical front of the SUV have not been made as such. The vehicle still continues to get its power from its 2.2L diesel engine, which has been mated to its six-speed auto transmission. The transmission and the engine are included in the CKD unit. The company has been offered to choose between two diesel engine variants offering 150PS and 190PS respectively. However, the common peak torque of 420Nm offered by this SUV makes it the leader in its class.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 compact SUV has been able to create an aura even amongst its rivals, the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3. This is because the vehicle has some unique features that have been incorporated into it. With the advantage of being assembled in India itself bringing down its price, the advantage that the Freelander 2 has over its rivals has further compounded. The Land Rover Freelander 2 matches its rivals in the aspects of performance and features, but reaches its consumers at a much lower price. With the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 being priced in the range of Rs.40 lacs and above, the pricing of the Freelander 2 SUV can ensure its domination in the Indian market in the times to come.
