Mahindra and Mahindra have secured the rights to manufacture the Mahindra Renault Logan in India from French car makers Renault. The company is thinking of revamping the car and making it more palatable to the tastes of the Indian car buying public. Earlier on when the Mahindra Logan was launched, it did sales close to 3000 units each month however due to the fleet acquisition by various cab companies, the Mahindra Logan lost its image. Moreover, its high price tag compared to other worthy competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Tata Indigo Manza made it lose its case.
Mahindra and Mahindra are definitely peeved about this situation and the first step taken to rectify this situation is to offer the Mahindra Logan with free first year’s comprehensive insurance. Moreover, the company is now offering the car with something which both its competitors are yet to offer, a CNG variant. One can get a CNG unit retrofitted into the 1.4 GLE and GLX varinats of the Mahindra Logan. This factory CNG kit is capable of holding 12 kgs of CNG out of which 2.5 kgs are reserve. The CNG kits are fitted as well as supplied by Logicon Alternate Fuels and is made by Landi Renzo. These CNG kits cost Rs 56,000 more and are backed by the standard 2 years warranty or 50,000 kms whichever is earlier.
Claimed fuel efficiency for this car by Mahindra and Mahindra is 20 km/kg of CNG. This roughly translates to about a running cost of Rs 2.62 per kilometer. The petrol motor makes do with a running cost of Rs 3.94 per kilometer. CNG helps in reducing the harmful exhaust emissions however they limit the usability of the boot since the CNG kit would be fitted in the boot of the car. A new look Logan is also on the anvil by the later half of 2011. Seems like the fleet public would have a gala time about not worrying about to install separate gas kit.
