Mahindra launched its sub-4 meter compact UV Quanto back in Sept 2012 and had also given hints about bringing a more powerful version of the same, which is speculated to be a 4×4 variant. And now the guys from Motorbash have caught one of such vehicle during its test run near Pune, strengthening the rumor that the vehicle may hit the market soon.
The vehicle that was spotted during the test run was a five-seater with no jump seats at the rear, thus giving it ample space for luggage, although the existing model is sold with a 7-seater option. So, probability is that the new 4×4 version of Quanto may be a 5-seater, as the 4 wheel drive will attract auto enthusiast who love the power.
However there was now 4WD badge on the vehicle, rather it was the front wheel hub that had the 4WD inscribed on it. There are also rumors that the new Quanto will be hiring 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine under its hood to make it more fun to drive. Currently Quanto comes with a 3 cylinder 1.5 litre diesel engine.
The segment will soon be surrounded with the 4×4 badges as the biggest rival of Quanto, i.e. Renault Duster is also all set to get a 4×4 version. To the relief to car maker, the highly anticipate and upcoming Ford EcoSport will currently will not have any 4WD option. The SUV/crossover segment is booming with unprecedented pace and nearly all car makers are keen on having the biggest bite of the market. So, the efforts to bring in more powerful versions are just the step in the same side.
