The Indian SUV maker Mahindra and Mahindra, which is selling its premium flagship SUV XUV500 in the international market also, is reportedly working on the petrol version of the XUV500. The company currently sells all diesel SUVs in Indian market and will continue to do so, as it won’t be launching the petrol version of the Mahindra XUV500 in the Indian market.
The engine in the petrol version will be a 2.2 litre variable geometry turbocharged powertrim that will be coupled with a 6 speed manual transmission. The engine is capable of delivering about 138 bhp of power and about 330 Nm of torque. Mahindra XUV500 and Mahindra’s president said that the petrol unit is not restricted from the Indian launch but will arrive in Indian market only when it will be needed. Currently Indian customers prefer diesel over petrol for fuel economy.
Mahindra is also considering the launch of a compact version of its sedan Verito by the first quarter of 2013. The recently revealed Quanto is already doing wonders for the company so company is carrying a lot for hope for next year.
