Aspirations are dime a dozen and they are needed when one wants to take on the world. Remember, taking on the world is something which isn’t easy and in this case, when it happens to be the automotive market, then its bound to be big. Classic example is the recent launch of the Mahindra XUV500 in India. With a feature laden interiors and a styling to die for, this car definitely is one of the must seek outs in the auto industry. Here are a few details on what to expect from the Mahindra XUV500.
The Mahindra designers this time around have been given the brief to make this design a timeless thing than the one in the Scorpio, which by the way has fended off competition well enough for the 10 odd years that it has been in production in India. The design is said to be inspired by the Cheetah. Yes, the sprinter of an animal. Why the grille of the car, even the sides of the SUV are inspired by the paws of the Cheetah. The dual tipped exhausts as also the unique tail lamps pattern is something which would catch the eye of the buyer and other road users equally.
Well, we never expected that the interiors of a Mahindra vehicle would make us go wow, except for this one. Features galore are what one would call this SUV. Clear intentions of this SUV thinking of going international in a big way. The passport of any SUV to have an international visa is by having good looks as also a feature list which would rival some of the air planes. Automatic headlamps, rain sensing wipers, chiller box, touchscreen infotainment and also tyretronics is something which would be the envy of any SUV this side of Rs 20 lakhs. There are three rows of seats and even the third row of seats is extremely comfortable, something which Mahindra have learnt from their past experiences with the Scorpio and Xylo. The interiors are dual tone in nature and this is a good thing since there is no beige in here like the others in its class.
Mahindra and Mahindra have done a good thing by being one of the manufacturers who have constantly upgraded the sense of ride and handling in their cars starting from the Scorpio. This is one SUV from the Mahindra stables which is said to not have the top heavy feel which other SUVs in its class have to some extent. Confidence around the corners is the key to this car while the ride quality is something which Mahindra can boast of having inculcated the best in this beast. Xylo is one car which impressed us with its NVH factor and we are sure that this XUV500 would be no disappointment in this factor.
The safety features is another thing which the European and American markets harp on and this vehicle definitely has got it big time. Ample of crumple zones along with 6 airbags, side impact beams and disc brakes all around is something which many high end SUVs offer and not an SUV this side of Rs 20 lakhs. Moreover, there is the traditional EBD along with ABS as also Rollover mitigation, ESP, Hill Descent Control, Hydraulic Brake Assist and the Hill Hold Control features available. Did we forget to mention that on the top end version, the XUV500 would come with a 4×4 configuration as well.
To keep costs in the lower zones, Mahindra have used the same 2.2 liter mHAWK engine which is found in the Scorpio. However, for a SUV which is heavier than the Scorpio, this one does make more power as well. 140 Bhp of power along with 330 Nm of torque is what the 2.2 liter engine produces. There is an option of both 6 speed auto as also manual transmission in this vehicle. ARAI quoted fuel efficiency is very good for a vehicle this class and it stands at 15.1 kmpl.
The Mahindra XUV500 in India would be available in 3 variants and the Mahindra XUV500 price in India would start from Rs 10.8 lakhs while the top end model would retail for Rs 12.88 lakhs. All these prices are ex-show room, Delhi. A detailed review or test drive of the XUV500 would be done later on, in typical Indiandrives fashion.
