It was a time when Alto bagged the crown of the No.1 selling vehicle in the small car category. Now the replacement for the Alto, Alto 800 is all set to repeat the same success story. Maruti Alto 800 was launched nearly a month ago and since its launch it has created sale record for Maruti. On the single day of the Dhanteras, it recorded a booking of over 2000 units across India.
Maruti officials have said that Maruti have capacity to build about 25,000 to 30,000 units per month, so there will not be any time lag in the delivery. But there can be some competition in the market as the big rivals like Hyundai Eon and Tata Nano is also available without time lag. The older Alto was selling at a rate of about 30,000 units per month and for the new Alto 800 to get to these figures, it surely will take some time.
Alto 800 is powered by a 796cc 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which delivers a maximum power output of about 47 PS and a highest torque of about 69 Nm. The engine is couple with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The older Alto F8D engine has been tweaked for better performance in the new Alto 800. Moreover, Alto 800 is equipped with an improved fuel economy and is also available in the CNG variant also.
