India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) is planning to reveal 4 SUVs in the Indian market in the next two years, according media reports. According to the business news channel, ET now, MSI probably will be planning to launch a crossover version of its SX4 sedan by the next year possibly along with the much awaited XA Alpha Compact SUV by 2015.
Beside the aforesaid SUVs, Maruti is also planning to come up with a sub four-meter version of its Vitara and a SUV version of the Swift Dzire. Both of these vehicles are expected to arrive in the Indian market by the year 2015.
Maruti Suzuki which failed to create much of the required stir in the SUV market with its sole SUV offering Grand Vitara, is now desperate to come up with something that could help it to expand its market in the SUV segment also. With the SUV segment on a rapid growth in the Indian market, Maruti really need some good offering in the segment to compete with the current market segment which is mainly dominated by the Mahindra vehicles. If Maruti Suzuki India Limited is able to launch these SUVs and crossover in a competitive price range then we will surely witness the competition growing on to an all-new level. We have already been stunned by the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga that appeared and unexpectedly ruled the MPV market in just couple of months. Ertiga was a surprising entry from the Maruti that became segment topper in just six month of its launch.
Almost every auto maker in the country is planning to launch their own set of affordable and compact SUVs in the Indian market. Most of these came in response to the unprecedented success of the Mahindra Quanto and Renault Duster. Soon the market will be flooded with the compact SUVs. The highly anticipated Ford EcoSports is round the corner, Nissan is also coming up with its own version of the Renault Duster for the Indian market, Tata is also planning to reveal its Tata Indica Vista D90 Xtreme and few other vehicles from different auto makers are also on the list. So, with all these SUVs coming up, the competition is sure to heat up in the SUV segment.
