According to sources, Maruti will soon be announcing and can even launch a greener CNG variant of its Ertiga MPV. India’s largest car maker is planning to sell about 1000 to 1500 units of Ertiga CNG every month. Currently Maruti Suzuki is selling about 5000 to 6000 units of petrol and diesel variants of Ertiga MPV per month. Ertiga hires 1.4 litre 4-cylinder engine in its petrol version and a 1.3 litre 4 cylinder engine in its diesel trim.
Ertiga has been selling like hot cakes and has managed to fill in the gap caused by the dip in the car sale figures for the other passenger vehicles in the different segment for Maruti over the last few years.
The Ertiga is currently facing tough competition from Mahindra Quanto and Renault Duster. As a matter of fact the ever growing MPV/SUV segment lacks any CNG variant so, with the Ertiga CNG Maruti will be trying to cash in this opportunity. With the first CNG powered MPV in India Maruti is hoping to gain some good numbers with this vehicle.
