As per recent reports, the Mercedes Benz B Class is currently undergoing final testing and certification on road worthiness. It’s the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) that would grant the auto giant its required certification for the car. The model is being expected to deal with the ARAI tests over the next 10-15 days, which will then be followed by briefing of the model for its much anticipated release.
The car will be made available in both petrol and diesel versions. A 1.6L B189 engine capable of churning out a peak power of 122bhp will be the powerhouse for the petrol avatar. A B200 engine, generating 156bhp, has been included in the option under the petrol version of the B Class. On the other hand, a 1.8L common-rail diesel engine that generates a peak power of 109bhp and 136bhp will act as the powerhouse for the diesel version. As far as the transmission is concerned, the engine will be coupled with a 7G-DCT dual-clutch or a 6-speed manual transmission.
Safety is the top priority of auto manufacturers these days. Mercedes Benz’s entry level B Class tourer too is no exception. The car will be featuring Pre-Safe, Lane Assist and a Blind Spot Detection System. The car is expected to enter India through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route, that will take its price to somewhere between Rs.23-29 lakh.
