China always has an extended wheelbase version of the every car produced in the lap of luxury. Sprucing up to their demand, Mercedes-Benz had planned to roll out the extended wheelbase C-Class at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show, which the spy shots of same had appeared before the debut.
As per the images, the C-Class is stretched by 60mm in length over the standard model. As a result, the legroom at rear would have been enlarged and entry exit may have become easier than before.
The car spotted in the images, is the C260L model fitted with the optional AMG pack. The extended wheelbase C-Class is said to be exclusively made for China.
Brushing up the past, BMW 3-Series, the Audi A4 and the Volvo S60 too had got their extended wheelbase version in the Dragon country.
Technical details are not yet announced, but it is speculated the entry-level sedan of Merc will use that same four-cylinder engine which it was using earlier. Automatic transmission will be standard, while the diesel engines will not be offered on this car, because of the high demand for petrol engines.
Hence, after its launch on 20th April 2014 at the Beijing Motor Show, the car will go on sale on the following day. It is been planned to produce this extended wheelbase C-Class version at the Beijing facility which currently produces E-Class, the last-gen C-Class and the GLK-Class crossover.
