Mercedes Benz India launched ML250 CDI in India, it is a smaller engine version of the popular M-class SUV (ML 350 CDI), which was launched in May this year. The ML350 offers AMG style packaging.
The lower version Mercedes Benz ML250 CDI is powered by a smaller 2.2 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine as compared to the 3 litre V6 TDI unit supported by the ML 350 CDI. Initially the model was first introduced at Delhi Auto Expo 2012 and Mercedes first planned to sell about 100 units, however the company has now decided to start local assembling of the M-Class at its Chakan facility.
The ML350 is transported to India as a completely built units or CBU which accelerate its cost to around Rs.65 lacs. But as the new Mercedes Benz ML250 has been decided to be assembled in India, Mercedes was able to tag it with exciting price of about Rs.46.5 lacs (ex-showroom Delhi), which is lower than the price of BMW X3 3.0d and Audi Q5 3.0TDI and about 10.5 lacs cheaper than its own ML 350.
Mercedes has recently revealed its E-class sport and c-class sports editions in the country and another launch is seen as a vigorous attempt to capture the luxury car segment. The launch of the new model is sure to catch eyeballs. It will offer a great alternative for the luxury SUVs present in the market with the competitive price tag. The aggressive turnout from the Mercedes Benz is also being seen as the Mercedes Benz ML250 CDI revelation that it wanted to rule the luxury car segment by the end of 2014 surpassing its arch-rival BMW.
