The luxury segment in the Indian auto industry is on a roll, compelling many luxury car manufacturers to enter this growing market. One of the oldest contenders in this segment, Mercedes Benz recently posted their sales report for the month of May. The premium car manufacturer witnessed a growth of 36% in their sales, managing to sell 561 models last month.
The company reportedly sold a total of 411 units in May, 2010. During the period of January to May, the company saw its sales increase by 60%, selling 3,233 models against the 2,015 models sold in the same period, a year ago.
The company’s director of sales and marketing, Debashis Mitra, said that they performed really well in the SUV and sedan segment, adding that they will continue with this strong performance throughout 2011 as well, creating new standards.
