Mercedes Benz India Limited {MBIL} have had a long standing history with India. It has been the first of the premium luxury car brigade to enter the Indian market. It has long been dominant in the Indian market with its E-class sedan code named W 201. However with the advent of many other luxury car manufacturers like BMW, Audi and most recently Jaguar, Mercedes Benz India Limited have lost their top spot. To rectify this and once again get the top spot in the burgeoning Indian market, MBIL have launched a new variant of the E-class. It is named as Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY.
To beat BMW and AUDI in its own game, Mercedes Benz India Limited have launched the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY model. It is adopting the BMW strategy of launching as many variants as possible to cater to different needs. BlueEFFICIENCY means that the new engine would be leaner on fuel as well as on the environment in the emissions department. CGI in Mercedes speak means stratified charge gasoline injection, but in simple words direct injection. Mercedes used to offer direct injection long back in the SL500 in 1954. Back then it was expensive and suited the exclusive gull winged car. Audi India are already using the Direct Injection in the guise of FSI and TFSI.
The combination of CGI technology with BlueEFFICIENCY means that the new Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY will have efficiency, performance as well as environmental compatibility. After the C200 CGI, the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY becomes the second model in the Mercedes India line-up to feature the CGI technology. The Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY would only be available in the Elegance trim and at the helm of matters would be the 1796cc turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine which gives 183PS @ 5600 rpm and about 285Nm @2400 rpm. It will give about 8.5 kmpl in city and 12.40 kmpl on the highway. It is said to race from 0-100 in 11.8 seconds with a top speed of 192 kmph. The tranmission offered is a 5 speed manual with touch shift. It would be available metallic and non metallic colors with the Calcite White been the lone option in non metallic and, Indigolian Blue, Obsidian Black, Cuprite Brown Iridium Silver, Flint Grey and Palladium Silver in metallic colors. The icing on the cake is that the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY would be offered at a price of 39.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
At this price point, you get Bi-xenon headlights and Day time driving lamps with headlamp cornering assist, Parktronic with advanced parking guidance, Tyre pressure monitor system, THERMOTRONIC Automatic Climate Control, Bluetooth package and Memory seat functions. The only visual difference between the other models of the E line up and that of the Mercedes E200 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY would be the CGI tag at the rear alongwith BlueEFFICIENCY logo.
