So, on this eve of Valentines Day i.e. 14th February 2011, Mercedes Benz has something new to offer to Mercedes aficionados. Mercedes Benz is set to launch their Mercedes G55 SUV in India today. This SUV proves to be one of the turning points in the history of Mercedes company, as this vehicle has a very different image than the rest of the vehicles produced by the company. This vehicle gets the alphabet G which means Gelanden wagon, from the most tough and rugged vehicle in the Mercedes stable. Undoubtedly, this vehicle proves to be a turntable for the image of Mercedes Benz not only because it is one of the toughest vehicles by far but also because this vehicle will cost more than one can expect especially from its looks.
This much awaited vehicle was also present in the Mercedes StarDrive Experience held in the Juhu Aerodrome. Awaiting its launch, this vehicle was all about the robust looks and sturdy stance, that’s what we thought. From a closer look it doesn’t look much different from the Tata Sumo. Look at the picture provided with this article and even you’ll get confused about it but then that Big and Bold Mercedes logo right on its grille makes you think twice about its capability. Anyways, the looks of this car have been provided with a clean lines and finely shaped edges which makes it bit more different form Tata Sumo apart from its engine and other capabilities.
This vehicle is available with a 5.5 litre V8 petrol engine. This AMG engine is mated with a 7 speed automatic transmission. With everything this SUV has, it is capable to generate 382 Bhp of maximum power and a peak torque of 700 Nm. With an expected top speed around 250- 260 kmph and all wheel drive, this SUV is capable to cross the 100 kmph mark in just 5.4 seconds. This SUV is also equipped with high safety features like the high performance braking system, all airbags, ABS, EBD etc. With a host of comfort features, this vehicle proves to be one of the driver as well as passenger friendly vehicles. As far as the space is concerned this SUV allows a comfortable seating of five adults and for the boot space this vehicle provides a huge 2,262 litres of space with the help of rear split seats.
This vehicle owes its inception to the G-wagon which was initially developed as an army vehicle manufactured in the late 1970. The Mercedes Benz G55 might be called as the civilian version of the same but it is a lot different and much much better than the former version. With all the improved toys inside and the awesome off road ability this vehicle makes it definitely one of the best amongst its category and especially with that Mercedes batch clipped on its front makes this vehicle worth the price Rs 1,240 crores imposed against it.
