Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic’s recent debut to the Indian shores made good stir in the segment catered to the plush SUV buyers of layman category. But that wasn’t the aim of this legendary Japanese carmaker to do with the new launch. As informed by a source, the company is eyeing a bigger pie of share from the market, not by the means of Pajero, instead by re-launching the Outlander with a diesel mill!
Earlier, the crossover of Mitsubishi was available with the petrol engine only. Now, to the raking demand of diesel trims in the country it has almost become mandatory for every carmaker to bow down to this fuel-type, which couldn’t be left for an exception. The specific time and date of Outlander diesel launch aren’t revealed yet.
Possibility of the following two engines lay strong for Outlander to be launched, as internationally the model uses the same:
- 2.4-litre MIVEC, 4-cylinder diesel engine of 168PS max power @ 6000rpm and 220Nm of peak torque @ 4200rpm mated with a CVT gearbox.
- 3.0 L MIVEC, V6 diesel engine producing 227PS of max power @ 6250 rpm and 292Nm @ 3750rpm mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
However, the company has already upgraded the Outlander for 2014 model with cosmetics nip and tucks, also provided an option of 7-passenger seating capacity. The addition of diesel engine to it will turn it into a lucrative equation to be positioned rightly against the heavy-weights of industry. Hence, if priced rightly then the crossover will be able to compete aggressive in the segment under Rs 20 lakh.
